Traveling for Surgery? Here’s How Your Primary Care Physician Could Play a Role

What is your relationship with your family doctor? What is your relationship with your family doctor? When you see them for tests and clearance, be sure to notify them of your surgery, fill them in on the details and how you are preparing. It helps to inform them that you appreciate hearing their thoughts and value their expertise.

Ask them if you may come in post-procedure for observation, just to be certain.

  • This demonstrates you value their expertise and time

  • It sets reasonable expectations

  • It keeps the door of communication open

From monitoring healing and checking for infection to evaluating your overall health, some family doctors are willing to provide more care than you think.
